Healthy in 90: Day 1 – The Journey Begins!

Today marks the official start of my 90-day journey to better health, and I couldn’t be more excited! After weeks of preparation and anticipation, Day 1 is finally here – and it feels amazing to take that first step.

The Challenge Community

One of the most inspiring aspects of this challenge is that I’m not alone. About 250 people in my agency have committed to these next 90 days of transformation. Even more motivating is seeing our organization’s leaders participating alongside everyone else. When those at the top demonstrate this level of commitment to personal growth, it creates a powerful ripple effect throughout the entire team.

Today’s Non-Negotiables Recap

1. Workout ✅

What I did: First weight training session in nearly 3 years! I kept it simple with a full-body circuit focusing on form rather than weight. My muscles are definitely reminding me they exist now!

How it felt: Honestly, it was both humbling and exhilarating. I’d forgotten how good it feels to challenge your body. Starting from scratch isn’t easy, but knowing I’m rebuilding a foundation that will serve me for the next 90 days (and beyond) makes it worth it.

2. Nutrition Plan ✅

What I ate: Kept my calories under 2,000 today with three balanced meals and one small snack. Focused on lean protein and vegetables.

How it went: Easier than expected for Day 1, but I know the real test will come in a few days when the initial excitement wears off.

3. Hydration ✅

Amount: 90 oz of water, plus whatever I got through foods and other beverages

How it went: Had to make a lot more trips to the bathroom than usual, but I’m already feeling more alert and less foggy.

4. Relationship Building ✅

What I did: Prayed with my wife before bed – a simple act that brought us closer together

Impact: It created a moment of connection in our otherwise busy day. Looking forward to building on this throughout the challenge.

5. Reading ✅

What I read: Started “SPIN Selling” by Neil Rackham – completed 15 pages

My thoughts: Already finding valuable insights about effective questioning techniques in sales. Rackham’s research-based approach feels much more substantial than other sales books I’ve tried.

6. Dropped Bad Habit ✅

The habit: Going to bed without brushing my teeth (especially after falling asleep on the couch)

Today’s experience: Made a conscious effort to brush before even sitting on the couch tonight. Setting myself up for success!

7. Gratitude ✅

Three things I’m thankful for today:

  1. The motivation and energy to start this journey
  2. Being part of a community of 250 people all working toward similar goals
  3. My body’s ability to adapt and grow stronger, even when starting from scratch

Reflections on Day 1

There’s something powerful about that first day of commitment. The enthusiasm is high, and everything feels possible. I know there will be harder days ahead, but today I’m celebrating this start.

What struck me most was how interconnected these seven habits are. The hydration helped my workout performance, the workout boosted my mood for better relationships, and the reading expanded my mind. These aren’t seven separate tasks—they’re pieces of a complete system for better living.

I hope that by sharing my journey, someone else might feel inspired to start their own. We all begin somewhere, and today was my somewhere. Here’s to the next 89 days of growth, challenges, and transformation!
